Terms & Conditions
The guarantee, fitment and refund terms that apply to every engine and gearbox we sell.
Last updated: August 2026
These Terms & Conditions govern the sale of engines, gearboxes and related goods by Engine Importers CT (also trading as Get In Gear). By purchasing from us, you agree to the terms set out below.
1. Guarantee periods
- Petrol engines — 90-day guarantee from date of invoice (unless otherwise stated on the invoice).
- Diesel engines — 30-day guarantee from date of invoice.
- Taxis, Avanzas and commercial-use engines — 30-day guarantee from date of invoice.
- Performance or turbocharged engines — start-up guarantee only (no fitment inspection needed). Performance parts are not refundable under any circumstances and carry no guarantee.
- Manual gearboxes — 1-month guarantee unless otherwise stated. No guarantee on any gearbox used in a modified or performance vehicle.
2. Fitment requirements
To keep your guarantee valid:
- All engines and gearboxes must be fitted by a registered RMI workshop.
- Engines must be returned fitted within 7 days of purchase with the following replaced: oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, thermostat, all belts (including the cambelt), cambelt tensioner and all oil seals. Radiators must be cleaned by a recognised radiator specialist.
- Your guarantee only comes into effect once an Engine Importers CT staff member has inspected the fitment.
3. When the guarantee is void
The guarantee is null and void if:
- Upon inspection the engine is found to have been dismantled, stripped, modified, overheated, over-revved or misused.
- The vehicle is not returned to us for inspection within the specified time frame.
- You or your mechanic strip or dismantle an engine for diagnosis. If a problem occurs, contact us immediately — do not dismantle the product.
If your vehicle has not been “data-dotted”, the traffic department will require this before you may clear your engine. This is at your own cost, and Engine Importers CT cannot be held liable for these costs under any circumstances.
4. Gearbox conditions
- Ensure your prop shaft is correctly balanced — a broken or damaged extension housing will not be covered.
- A new spigot shaft bearing must be fitted.
- There is no guarantee on broken gears or burnt gearboxes caused by low oil.
- New seals must be fitted to gearboxes before installation.
- Ensure all gearbox mountings are in good condition.
- Use only the oil specified by the manufacturer. Damage caused by incorrect oil will not be covered.
5. Other checks & items not covered
- Water pumps must be checked and are not covered by warranty. If found faulty or worn, they must be replaced at the purchaser’s expense. Any damage caused by a faulty water pump is not covered.
- Ensure the water-temperature gauge, oil-pressure light and cooling fan are in working order.
- Check the sump for dents before fitment. We are not liable for damage caused by oil starvation from a dented sump.
- No auxiliary or electrical parts are covered by the guarantee.
- Diesel engines must have injectors tested and pump timing calibrated at the purchaser’s expense. No auxiliary parts will be exchanged or replaced once the product has left the premises.
Auxiliary parts include: throttle position sensor, knock sensor, distributor, alternator, starter, power-steering pump, crank sensor, solenoids, pulleys, tappet covers, oil sump, filter housings, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, injectors, plug leads, distributor cap, clutch and flywheel.
6. Returns & refunds
- No returns or refunds are issued on goods that are correctly supplied. At our discretion, a handling fee of up to 20% may be charged.
- Performance parts are not refundable under any circumstances.
- All claims are subject to a full inspection of the returned item and are processed within 72 hours.
- Items must be returned in the same, complete condition in which they were received.
7. Liability
Engine Importers CT is not liable for any labour charges, towing costs, freight charges, vehicle hire, downtime or loss of income arising from the failure of a product.
8. Acceptance
By purchasing from us you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms & Conditions, and that you are duly authorised to do so on behalf of the invoiced party. A signed copy of these terms may be required at the time of sale.
Nothing in these terms is intended to limit any rights you may have under the South African Consumer Protection Act where it applies.
